At the same time, Brazil stands out as one of the countries with the greatest technological evolution regarding the manufacture of second-generation ethanol (E2G), a biofuel that limits the negative consequences on the environment. Following this bias, the present research is carried out due to the need for the use of fuels by the current society and aims to discuss, through a bibliographic survey, about the production of E2G through sugarcane residues, thus emphasizing the importance of bagasse and sugarcane straw during this process, by-products that stand out for being the most used in this process in Brazil. In addition, the steps of manufacturing second- generation ethanol are described: pre-treatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation and distillation. Finally, with a sustainable purpose, at the end of the bibliographic survey and description of the manufacturing steps, the production of 2G ethanol is carried out.Item Cana-de-açúcar e a produção de etanol(Instituto Federal de Educação Ciência e Tecnologia de Alagoas, 2022-03-18) Moreira, João Igor Andrade; Cunha, Simonise Figueiredo Amarante; Cunha, Simonise Figueiredo Amarante; Cavalcante, Maria da Conceição Matos; Tavares, Andreia Macleybiane GoisThus, the objective of this work is to present the production of ethanol from sugarcane (Saccharum spp), its history in Brazil, cost reduction, ethanol production process, types of ethanol and by-products produced. Compared to other countries, Brazil has some advantages in ethanol production, such as mastery of the entire production process, plenty of land, skilled labor and worker safety. Usually, ethanol production involves the following steps: milling, juice treatment, fermentation and distillation and in some cases dehydration processes. The first generation of ethanol is a traditional system that produces ethanol from sugarcane juice, and which still leads the sugar and ethanol industry and its production by-products such as vinasse, bagasse and filter cake, which are of lower cost for the industry. As for anhydrous ethanol, in addition to the aforementioned stages, there is also the dehydration stage. Production is a positive perspective, given the increase in sales of flex-fuel vehicles, increased consumption and exports of sugar and ethanol, increased domestic consumption of anhydrous ethanol and hydrated and expansion of production, in this perspective it was possible to perceive the importance of the study of the sugar-alcohol area to understand how the process that transforms glucose into ethanol is carried out is of paramount importance. In the mills, the sugarcane is harvested and crushed, producing juice that, after fermentation, is converted into ethanol. However, distillation also produces vinasse, a residue that, for a long time, was seen as a waste problem. Today, we recognize its importance: vinasse is used in the fertigation of sugarcane fields, providing the soil with vital nutrients, such as potassium and sulfur. Additionally, studies are investigating alternative methods for its reuse, such as the production of lactic acid and even its conversion into green hydrogen. This reuse not only benefits the environment, but also helps the economy and sustainability of the Brazilian sugar and ethanol sector. This work aims to present the production processes and the efficiency of vinasse reuse in the industry, through a bibliographic review on the ethanol production process from sugarcane in Brazil, focusing on the investigation of vinasse reuse, evaluating its environmental and economic impacts.Item Produção de etanol no estado de Alagoas: descrevendo a situação real(2024) Felix, Gustavo Santos; Chaves, Taciana Carneiro; Cunha, Simonise Figueiredo Amarante; Cunha, Simonise Figueiredo Amarante; Chaves, Taciana Carneiro; Dacal, Ruth Germaine VrijdagsThe state of Alagoas, located in the Northeast region of Brazil, has a long-standing tradition in the cultivation of sugarcane and the production of first-generation sugar and ethanol. The state comprises 23 municipalities that have plants dedicated to ethanol production. However, this sector faces various challenges and opportunities: the sugar-energy industry in Alagoas struggles with issues such as low sugarcane productivity and a lack of investment in technology and infrastructure; nevertheless, it seeks to adapt to new market demands and environmental requirements. Ethanol production in Alagoas was traditionally based on the use of sugarcane juice, which is fermented and distilled to obtain the biofuel. Currently, corn is also used as a raw material, with Cooperativa Pindorama, located in the municipality of Coruripe, being the first plant in the state of Alagoas to produce ethanol from corn. Thus, to describe the ethanol production situation in the state, the general objective was to present the historical and current context of ethanol production in Alagoas, highlighting its challenges and its economic, social, and environmental importance for the state. To achieve these objectives, a descriptive research methodology with a qualitative approach was adopted, describing the historical and current context of the state. Based on the collected information, it is possible to conclude that the ethanol production sector in Alagoas is in a consolidated and efficient stage, although some complications still exist.Item A queima da palha da cana-de-açúcar e suas consequências ao meio ambiente e a população(Instituto Federal de Educação Ciência e Tecnologia de Alagoas, 2022-03-18) Santos, Maria Laura dos; Cunha, Simonise Figueiredo Amarante; Cunha, Simonise Figueiredo Amarante; França, Márcio Abreu de; Cavalcante, Maria da Conceição MatosThe sugar and alcohol sector is responsible for producing sugar, alcohol, and other products through the use of sugarcane as raw material. In the 90s, the construction of the Salvador Lyra dam allowed the implementation of linear irrigation techniques, increasing productivity. The unit focuses on the sustainable production of sugar, ethanol, electricity and sugarcane derivatives, meeting market standards and seeking continuous improvement. Production begins with weighing and analyzing the sugar cane, followed by pressing to extract the juice, which is analyzed to determine the soluble solids and sucrose content. Mineral impurities are also checked. The broth is then clarified with lead sub-acetate and filtered, and is subsequently analyzed to measure the sucrose content. The internship at the plant provided practical learning about laboratory and operational processes, covering several areas of the sugar and alcohol sector, highlighting the importance of the role of the chemistry technician in quality control and optimization of industrial processes.Item Uso dos subprodutos da fabricação do açúcar e do etanol em substituição aos fertilizantes(Instituto Federal de Educação Ciência e Tecnologia de Alagoas, 2023-04-19) Santos, José Wesley dos; Cunha, Simonise Figueiredo Amarante; Cunha, Simonise Figueiredo Amarante; Barbosa, Amaury Franklin Benvindo; Silva, Marina de MagalhãesSugarcane is raw material for the production of sugar and ethanol, where by-products such as filter cake and vinasse are obtained throughout this manufacturing process. By-products are agro-industrial discards, that is, leftover materials that the main process does not need for the final product. In view of the bibliographical review, it was observed that the filter cake and vinasse have nutrients and minerals in their composition that can be applied in sugarcane planting lands to complement and satisfy the needs of the plant for its development when the soil alone does not have all the necessary components for the plant. Because they cause less impact on the environment when used as fertilizer, and are cheaper than industrial fertilizers, these by-products are a good alternative for sugarcane producers who need the properties that these fertilizers have, but who also want to save, therefore, the use of by-products replacing fertilizers are a good alternative for the preservation of the environment, for the plant that produces it and for small producers.
