In the Manguaba Lagoon, in Alagoas, this practice is essential for the livelihood of the riverside communities of the municipality of Pilar. This study, with an ethnoichthyological focus, investigated the socioeconomic profile of fishermen, their ecological knowledge, the species caught, vessels, techniques, and gear used. The research, conducted between November 2024 and March 2025, used methods such as interviews, discussion groups, and direct observation. It was found that local fishing is primarily for fish, crab, and shrimp, using trawl nets and rowing or motorized canoes. The main species caught include carapeba, catfish, tilapia, manjuba, and camurim. Among the main challenges identified are the low level of education among fishermen, precarious conditions for fish conservation and marketing, the use of illegal fishing gear, the devaluation of species such as mandi and catfish, and the lack of government support. Also noteworthy is the pollution of the Manguaba Lagoon, resulting from the dumping of waste and sewage. These issues highlight the need for public policies focused on participatory management, environmental education, sustainable management, and technical support for fishing communities, recognizing local ecological knowledge as an essential source for the appreciation and characterization of traditional fishing activities. This study analyzed the feasibility of incorporating PANC into the school meals of Marechal Deodoro (AL) and developed educational materials to disseminate the findings. The research adopted a descriptive approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, including bibliographic research, field research, and case studies. Data were analyzed using electronic spreadsheets and action research, allowing for the integration of analysis and practical application. The results showed that 65% of participants were unfamiliar with the term "PANC," yet 54% already consumed parts of these plants, demonstrating practical knowledge despite lacking familiarity with the terminology. All participants expressed interest in cultivating PANC, and 100% were willing to expand their production. Additionally, 83% reported learning about PANC through popular wisdom, highlighting the importance of traditional knowledge. Based on these findings, an educational material featuring recipes was developed to encourage the introduction of PANC into school meals, promoting nutritional awareness and strengthening local food practices.Item Avaliação da estrutura populacional da espécie Hancornia Speciosa Gomes, "Mangabeira", em áreas de atividade extrativista em Maragogi, Alagoas(INSTITUTO FEDERAL DE ALAGOAS - Ifal, 2026-03-28) Silva, Erlande Lins da; Santos, Josiene Maria Falcão Fraga dos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0789229130960422; Melo, Joabe Gomes de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5180399418500159; Oliveira, Tiago Bento de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4362217919311737; Araujo, Daniel de Magalhães; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0700-9836; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5837261784524743Hancornia speciosa Gomes, commonly known as “mangabeira”, is a tree specie belonging to the Apocynaceae family, whose fruits are appreciated and widely consumed in Northeastern Brazil, both fresh and in food recepies. Mangaba extractivism in Brazil represents a practice of great socioeconomic and cultural importance for many local and/or traditional communities. This study asess the population structure of the species in Maragogi, Alagoas, Brazil. After field recognition, the localities of Antunes, Ponta de Mangue, and Nova Jerusalém Settlement were selected. For each individual, circumference at breast height (CBH), height, phenological stage, and presence of seedlings were recorded. Anthropogenic marks of bark cutting and scraping were also observed. Each individual was georeferenced using a portable GPS device. Samples were collected for taxonomic identification and deposited in the MAC-IMA/AL Herbarium. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and population structure was evaluated through diameter class distribution. Spatial distribution was assessed using Morisita's Index, while age structure analysis considered diameter at breast height (DBH) and reproductive stage. A total of 1,011 individuals were recorded in the areas of Antunes (451 - 45%), Nova Jerusalém Settlement (353 - 35%), and Ponta de Mangue (207 - 20%), presenting an aggregated spatial distribution (MI = 1.7999), with concentration in remnant native vegetation areas, generally located on private properties such as backyards and small farms. The species mainly occurred in shrub-tree restinga vegetation, comprising 869 individuals (86%), while 142 individuals (14%) were found in ombrophilous forest areas. Regarding population structure, there was a predominance of young reproductive (440) and mature reproductive individuals (497), corresponding to approximately 88% of the sampled population. Diameter distribution showed greater concentration in classes between 15 and 30 cm, indicating a tendency toward an inverted “J” pattern, commonly associated with populations presenting natural regeneration potential. However, the reduced number of seedlings (164) and juveniles (74) suggests limitations in the natural establishment of the species. During field sampling, phenological observations indicated individuals in fruiting (55%), flowering (18%), budding (17%), and vegetative stages (10%). In addition, 585 individuals exhibited marks on their trunks, indicating the influence of extractive activities. Despite the possibility of natural regeneration, the population is under intense anthropogenic pressure due to real estate expansion, tourism, and fragmentation of vegetation remnants. To survive in these habitats, this family of plants relies on a series of morphological adaptations, including the modification of leaves into spines, water storage capacity, chlorophyllous stem, etc. In addition to the physical structure to withstand environmental conditions, cacti also have a series of specialized chemicals, known as secondary metabolites, which have several protective properties for plants, but which also have interesting effects on other organisms and which, for this reason, has been widely studied by scientists. Despite the protective machinery with which cacti were equipped, many of them are threatened with extinction, creating a need to preserve them. Many studies investigating the phytochemical profile and pharmacological properties of Brazilian cacti have been carried out, but none have covered all of them. Thus, the research question arose: what has already been discovered about the phytochemistry, pharmacology and biotechnology of cacti in Brazil? The research was carried out with the aim of answering this question using the systematic literature review methodology. The results allowed the construction of a panorama that will serve the future of research with Brazilian cacti that deal with the themes researched here, that is, the pharmacology, phytochemistry and biotechnology of cactuses in Brazil. Phytochemical information was found for 50 cacti, pharmacological information for 31 cacti and patents for 18 cacti. The unfolding of this process took place in chapter one of this dissertation, which was organized into two chapters, the second being the unfolding of the technical and technological product, which expressed the desire not to imprison the information presented here within the walls of the academy. In Brazil, it has occurrence of 81 genera and 483 species, in which 15 genera and 206 species are endemic, with 37 genera and 275 species native to the country. Cacti have different uses and applications in different cultures around the world, being used as a human food resource, ornamental, forage, lumber, recreational, mystical, medicinal, among others; being widely used by man in folk medicine around the world. However, no specific study for the Cactaceae family, encompassing the species used for medicinal purposes throughout Brazil had yet been carried out, so there is a gap. Which species of the cactaceae family are used medicinally by the Brazilianpopulation? What properties do they have? Considering the importance of knowing the diversity of plants with therapeutic purposes, their uses and the potential of Cactaceae species, this study aims to carry out a survey in order to respond to these problems, bringing a historical- cultural context regarding the use of the family for medicinal purposes in Brazil. Therefore, the research was carried out through a literature review, followed by several data analyses. Thirty-four species of Cactaceae that are used medicinally in Brazil were recognized, with the most frequent species being: Cereus jamacaru, Opuntia ficus-indica, Melocactus zehntneri, Xiquexique gounellei and Harrisia adscendens; the first corresponding to 52.9% of the total works analyzed in this study. The most common therapeutic indications for cacti in Brazil were: “kidney problems”, “cough”, “flu”, “fever”, “inflammation” and “bronchitis”. Two species showed a high relative importance index (RI): Cereus jamacaru - RI 2.0, which was also the most versatile species, followed by Opuntia ficus- indica - RI 1.132. The phytochemical compounds and pharmacological actions of the species were characterized in a survey carried out. A variety of medicinal cactus species were identified that are known and used throughout the country, related to the treatment of various health problems in different body systems. Thus, its promotion is essential to human development. Given the level of this resource, it is necessary to know the level of hydro-environmental sustainability of springs. This work aims to analyze the hydroenvironmental quality of the headwaters of the Coruripe river basin on the south coast of Alagoas. O- study of environmental quality, having as environmental characteristics the physical characteristics, the macroscopic and microscopic sources of the quality of the characteristics, the health quality protocol and the biological values established by the National Council for the Environment-CONAMA. During the realization, data were estimated and collected between 2021 and within2. 205 collection points were selected according to their influence2 of the limits of environmental preservation, and2 of the works the state of environmental preservation Minas d'águas. At these points were determined as physical and physical characteristics, macroscopic and microbiological characteristics. The realization of this work will make it possible to clarify the community about the degree of preservation of its springs, as well as the quality of its waters, signaled as public entities and entities responsible for water resources in the basin, the need to develop public policies that guarantee protection of water-based water resources, offering terrestrial ecosystems, safe water and water and to the population that uses the Coruripe River watershed.Item Estudo do processo de invasão do “sururu branco” (Mytilopsis sallei) na lagunar Mundaú, Maceio – Alagoas(INSTITUTO FEDERAL DE ALAGOAS - Ifal, 2025-02-26) Vilar, Evlyn Larisse da Silva; Araújo, Daniel de Magalhães; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0700-9836; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5837261784524743; Melo, Joabe Gomes de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5180399418500159; Bordinhon, André Moreira; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0982411313292542; Tamano, Luana Tieko Omena; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4206868438935017In 2021, the Maceió sururu extractive community reported the constant appearance of a mollusk similar to the native sururu, but with a whitish color, which soon came to be called “white sururu” (Mytilopsis sallei) by riverside dwellers. Later, in 2022, the disappearance of the native sururu, Mytella falcata, was reported. Considering that the sururu is an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Alagoas, being a source not only of income, but also of food for a significant portion of the population, it is essential to carry out studies aimed at elucidating the incursion of this invasive bivalve into the Estuarine Complex Mundaú-Manguaba Lagoon (CELMM). Thus, this study aimed to understand the process of invasion of the “white sururu” in the lagunar Complex, as well as understanding the relationship between the establishment of the invasive species in the region and the disappearance of the species of sururu native to it, from the perspective of fishermen. Sururu from the Estuarine Complex.This study had a qualitative focus, using exploratory and descriptive field research as its methodological contribution. On-site visits were carried out in the region, as well as at Fishermen's Associations, presenting the theme and objectives of this research. 31 informants were interviewed, 90.30% of whom were male, with an average age of 56 years and an average fishing age of 36 years. Fishermen still associate the emergence of the white sururu with the “disappearance” of the native sururu, which is evidenced by many studies of the harmful effects on the environment and the native species that inhabit it as a result of the introduction of invasive species. However, according to the evidence, the “disappearance” of the native sururu may be more linked to changes in salinity and climate than the presence of the invasive bivalve. The disappearance of the native sururu, in turn, caused profound and severe effects on the riverside community, especially for those who survived from fishing, forcing the “sururuzeiros” to migrate to other regions and/or jobs. Knowledge about the invasive species is still incipient for the fishermen interviewed, especially when compared to knowledge about the native species. Fishermen consider the white sururu to be stronger and more resistant to the conditions established in the environment, representing a real danger to the native sururu, which represents the main source of subsistence for them and their families. Thus, the riverside community shows great concerns about the adverse effects of the incursion of the white sururu into laguna Mundaú. Understanding its importance, an increasing number of studies are being conducted to improve educational practices focused on the environment and sustainability. The evaluation process is an instrument that can be a strong ally in educational actions. Therefore, this research analyzes the evaluation parameters and indicators of the Environmental Education actions and programs of the Institute of the Environment (IMA) of Alagoas. The objective is to understand the evaluation procedures adopted in each of the active actions, focusing on this theme in a case study characterized as exploratory and descriptive, based on document analysis, interviews, and questionnaires applied to sector managers. The collected data indicates that the analyzed programs use qualitative evaluation indicators, emphasizing social participation, sustainability, and biodiversity conservation. Finally, the analysis highlights the importance of structuring these indicators to ensure the effectiveness of the initiatives, suggesting the continuous development of indicators adapted to local needs.Item O que sabemos sobre a governança ambiental em áreas protegidas? : Tendências e direcionamentos(INSTITUTO FEDERAL DE ALAGOAS - Ifal, 2023-07-27) Santos, Henrique da Silva; Romero, Renato de Mei; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9857771457585862; Schiavetti, Alexandre; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7401911259032572; Melo, Joabe Gomes de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5180399418500159Environmental governance can be defined as the interaction between structures, processes, and traditions that determine how power and responsibilities are exercised by stakeholders, for which various governance instruments can be used. Its use has grown in recent years, especially in protected areas. Here, our objective was to analyze the articles indexed in two databases – Web of Science and Scopus – on environmental governance in protected areas, to establish an overview of the studies worldwide. For this, scientometrics, a methodology linked to metrics, can trace scientific advances over time. Data were processed in software RStudio and Excel. Chloropleth maps were also prepared in the program QGIS 3.22.16. The study is divided into a literature review; study design, data collection, analysis, visualization, and interpretation. The search time interval was 1999-2022. As a result, 768 articles were in the two databases, distributed in 222 journals, being carried out by 2555 authors. The USA, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Indonesia were the countries that most stood out in scientific production. As expected, most studies fall within the governance and methodological categories. The results indicate that the use of scientometric analysis proved to be important in identifying and monitoring research on environmental governance in protected areas. The evaluation of the knowledge produced is a necessity for all sectors that carry out research, as it is possible to infer new areas of investigation, as well as to determine and point out gaps in knowledge.Item Pesca, comércio e conservação de Elasmobrânquios : um estudo de caso no nordeste do Brasil(INSTITUTO FEDERAL DE ALAGOAS - Ifal, 2025-11-28) Santos, Erik Antonio Ferreira dos; Sampaio, Cláudio Luis Santos; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0389-2302; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2526336992077506; Romero, Renato de Mei; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6196-6122; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9857771457585862; Melo, Joabe Gomes de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5180399418500159; Ferreira, Cristiane de Paula; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7804816854015308Sharks and rays, comprising 96% of cartilaginous fish, are crucial for regulating coastal and oceanic food webs, yet they constitute the most threatened group of marine vertebrates, with 53 species at risk in Brazil, with fishing being the main threat factor. In view of this problem, the present study aims to analyze the socioeconomic and ecological aspects related to the fishing and trade of elasmobranchs carried out in the traditional fishing community of Jaraguá (Maceió - Alagoas). Bibliographic and documentary research was conducted in a literature review process, in addition to interviews using structured and semi-structured questionnaires. As results, 18 fishermen from the community were interviewed, a completely male public, and through their reports and documentary records, the presence of several endangered species was identified, captured by gillnet fishing and handline, but caught predominantly incidentally and as bycatch of other fishery resources, representing a fishery of low economic significance. The fishermen demonstrated knowledge of the environmental legislation regarding the protection of elasmobranchs, especially the prohibition of the fin trade, which they claimed no longer occurs, but alleged ignorance of the ecological importance of the animals. In this context, the creation of protected areas can work as an excellent instrument of environmental management, especially in the provision of ecosystem services. Private Natural Heritage Reserves are private conservation units with the objective of achieving these assumptions. The objective of this study is to understand and characterize the processes related to creation and the uses given to this typology of protected area in Alagoas. A survey of data (spatial, bibliographic, documentary and interviews) was carried out on the reserves. Information from interviews with representatives of public agencies and civil society responsible for the creation and implementation, in addition to the owners or managers of the reserves, was analyzed. With this, we sought to identify three main points: 1. History of creation of RPPNs; 2. Description of the reserves, with administrative and maintenance aspects, conservation, biodiversity, threats; 3. Public and private uses of the reserve. As a result, we hope to assist in the composition of scientific information about them, once the existence of gaps in freely accessible data in official electronic addresses has been identified. As for the partial results obtained so far, it is possible to observe the identification of all the seventy-six existing reserves in the state, as well as the classification by domains and by stages of creation. From this, a higher concentration of reserves was identified in the Atlantic Forest domain compared to the Caatinga domain. This abundance of reserves, mainly in the Atlantic Forest, may be linked to actions by several sectors: the public ministry, the state environmental agency, non-governmental organizations active in this biome, as well as the initiative of the agro-industrial sector, since several protected areas are owned by the sugar and ethanol industries. Therefore, the emergence of RPPNs in the state of Alagoas was motivated by factors such as the institution of SNUC itself; the incentive to landowners through environmental compensation, in the form of a suggestion in accordance with the IMA and MP; regularization through decree 3050/2006; the need for forested areas to implement projects for the reintroduction of endangered species and actions to publicize this type of reserve among landowners carried out by IPMA. All these factors added to the development of the Mais RPPNs, Pró-Reservas plans and all the effort made by the NGOs, as well as a good relationship between the actors involved to facilitate the reduction of bureaucracy in the processes in public agencies were essential for the installation of RPPNs in the state.
