This study investigates the occurrence, prevention and control of FBDs with a focus on biological agents, currently promoting food safety and raising public awareness of hygiene and food handling practices. In Brazil, there are limitations in the knowledge of the epidemiological profile of FBDs, with few states and municipalities having comprehensive data on the causative agents and the foods most frequently involved. In order to reduce the incidence of FBDs, it is essential to intensify attention to food safety, improve production processes and raise awareness throughout the production chain. The implementation of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) programmes, the continuous training of workers and the adoption of advanced hygiene and monitoring technologies are essential measures to guarantee food safety.
