The growing awareness of the health impacts resulting from exposure to a wide range of compounds has led to the strengthening of environmental regulations and policies, such as Ordinance GM/MS No. 888, of May 4, 2021. In recent years, the search for effective ways to reduce environmental impacts has become even greater, since the risk of contamination of water resources is an environmental concern with a major impact on public health. Therefore, the study aims to evaluate and characterize the quality of groundwater, determining some physical-chemical and microbiological parameters. Five wells were selected, where the variables of pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, color, temperature, alkalinity, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, chlorides, acidity, total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms were analyzed. Microbiological analyses were performed to assess the presence or absence of total and thermotolerant coliforms. Subsequently, field and laboratory tests were carried out. The results obtained during the tests indicated that the analyzed waters require different treatments, inherent to their specific quality. Well 02 meets all the standards of Ordinance No. GM/MS 888/2021, however, it operated for only 3 months during the year. Samples from wells 01, 03, and 04 meet the various aspects of the ordinance, requiring only chlorine treatability to meet all potability regulations. Well 05 does not meet all the standards of Ordinance No. GM/MS 888/2021, demonstrating samples that exceeded the VMP for turbidity, color, total hardness, and chlorides.Item Determinação gravimétrica de óleos e graxas em águas superficiais: uma abordagem contextualizada para o ensino de química ambiental(2025-07-09) Andrade , Jacksilane Laurentino da Silva; Freitas, Alan John Duarte de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7222112856028905; Souza, Antônio Albuquerque de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7344135285199504; Santos, Eduardo Lima dos; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0426360378881187This study addresses the educational adaptation of analytical methods from Environmental Chemistry for high school settings, focusing on the determination of oils and greases (OGs) in surface water. The central research question was: is it possible to adapt the APHA 5520B method for educational purposes while ensuring its applicability in school laboratories with technical feasibility, safety, and pedagogical value? The main objective was to propose a simplified experimental protocol based on method 5520B for gravimetric determination of OGs, integrating it into environmental themes within Chemistry education. This applied, exploratory, and quali-quantitative research involved the collection and analysis of real samples (surface water and industrial effluents), as well as control samples prepared with vegetable and lubricating oils. The method demonstrated good sensitivity in simple matrices, with error margins ranging from 13% to 30%, and greater variability in complex matrices, where errors exceeded 40%. The pedagogical application involved 35 high school students from Theonilo Gama State School (Alagoas, Brazil), who participated in experimental activities and responded to an evaluative Likert-type questionnaire. Results showed that 78% of the students recognized the positive impact of combining theory and practice on their learning process. The adapted protocol proved compatible with inquiry-based approaches and the principles of Green Chemistry, enabling the exploration of topics such as water pollution, environmental legislation, and socio-environmental responsibility. For this construction was used the case study, which approached the playful as methodology in teaching and learning chemistry. In addition to acting as a vector for infectious diseases, water also serves as an important indicator of contemporary environmental impacts. This study aimed to evaluate the water quality of the Mundaú Lagoon, located among the municipalities of Maceió, Santa Luzia do Norte and Coqueiro Seco, which is part of the Mundaú-Manguaba Estuarine-Lagoon Complex (CELMM). The study area has attracted increasing scientific interest due to the presence of rock salt (halite) mines, which provide raw material for the production of caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, sodium bicarbonate, soap, detergents, cleaning products, and pharmaceuticals. The mining company responsible for this activity drilled wells and injected water into the salt layer, producing brine that was then pumped to the surface. This process, carried out for more than four decades, caused structural and physicochemical alterations in the subsurface environment. The contact between the lagoon water and saline material from mineral deposits can significantly alter its natural quality pattern, increasing salinity and affecting the aquatic dynamics of the ecosystem. To assess these impacts, a monthly monitoring program was conducted, comparing the results with the standards established by the brazilian Ministry of Health (MS) and the brazilian National Environmental Council (CONAMA). Physical parameters (pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, color, dissolved oxygen, and temperature), chemical parameters (total hardness, calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, chlorides, and acidity), and microbiological parameters (total and thermotolerant coliforms) were analyzed at five sampling points in the municipality of Coqueiro Seco, approximately 21.4 km from Maceió. Results showed that some points, particularly Points 4 and 5, exhibited elevated turbidity, conductivity, and salinity values, suggesting anthropogenic influence and possible mineral pollution. Microbiological analyses indicated high concentrations of thermotolerant coliforms, classifying the water as unsuitable for domestic and recreational use due to the potential risk of waterborne diseases transmission. The control of these pests has traditionally been based on the intensive use of chemical pesticides. In this context, the adoption of more sustainable strategies, such as Integrated Pest Management (IPM), demands the development of new technologies that reconcile efficiency in control and reduction of environmental impacts. This work aimed to develop and evaluate an adsorbent substrate based on pink mango peel waste, associated or not with chitosan, intended for the adsorption and controlled release of semiochemical mixtures formed by the combination of male sex pheromones and kairomones from pink mango. Mango peel powder in green and mature stages was used, as well as hybrid formulations containing 50% peel and 50% chitosan. The evaluated synthetic mixtures of semiochemicals (M1, M2, M3, and M4) were formulated from compounds previously identified through electroantennography (α-pinene, β-myrcene, camphene, sabinene, linalool, 1-heptanol, (Z)-3-nonen-1-ol, and α-farnesene). Physicochemical characterization was performed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TG), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). SEM analyses revealed irregular surfaces and high roughness in the mango peel powders and chitosan. FTIR spectra indicated the presence of similar polar functional groups among the materials, mainly hydroxyls (-OH), carbonyls (C=O), and amines (-NH₂). TG results demonstrated similar mass loss profiles for green and ripe pink mango samples. DSC analysis allowed the identification of thermal events. And due to the population increase, it became necessary to use these agents to meet food demand. However, its excess causes harm to human health and the environment. Metribuzin (MTZ) is one of the most common herbicides for the control of organic weeds, however, due to its increase and excess, it is necessary to monitor and determine this herbicide, which is essential to reduce risks to the environment and human health. One of the alternatives that has been growing for its determination is the use of electrochemical sensors that consist of translating the chemical information of certain analytes into measurable electrical signals (STRADIOTTO; YAMANAKA; ZANONI, 2003; KIMMEL et al., 2012). These devices can have high sensitivity, are easy to prepare and have a relative low cost. They can also be characterized by details, as it is possible to analyze molecules of environmental interest (ŠVORC; RIEVAJ; BUSTIN, 2013), foods (PACHECO et al., 2015). In this context, it is essential that drinking water be free from chemical and biological contaminants. The ingestion of water containing nitrate concentrations above established limits may cause adverse effects on human health. Among these effects, methemoglobinemia—also known as blue baby syndrome—stands out. This condition occurs due to the oxidation of hemoglobin iron from the ferrous state (Fe²⁺) to the ferric state (Fe³⁺), resulting in the formation of methemoglobin, which is unable to efficiently transport oxygen. This alteration compromises tissue oxygenation and may lead to symptoms such as fatigue, headache, and shortness of breath. In addition, chronic exposure to nitrate has been associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer due to the endogenous formation of potentially carcinogenic N-nitroso compounds (nitrosamines) in the gastrointestinal tract. This study aimed to monitor nitrate (NO₃⁻-N) concentrations in groundwater from the Barreiras–Marituba aquifer system in Maceió, Alagoas State, Brazil, between 2022 and 2025, based on laboratory data and statistical analyses, and to assess compliance with the limits established by Brazilian Ministry of Health Ordinance GM/MS No. 888/2021. The results indicated that the Barreiras–Marituba aquifer system exhibits different degrees of nitrate contamination, with higher and persistent concentrations in the lower part of the city, ranging from 10.65 to 46.86 mg NO₃⁻-N/L, and moderate but increasing values in the upper part, between 4.20 and 26.70 mg NO₃⁻-N/L. A significant proportion of the samples exceeded the maximum permissible limit of 10 mg NO₃⁻-N/L, evidencing the influence of anthropogenic sources associated with inadequate sanitation infrastructure.
