This study aims to analyze, from the feminist critique, the character Ruth, daughter of the protagonist couple in the novel A falência, the main work of the carioca writer which was first published in 1901. In the first chapter, I address aspects of the lives of women writers of the twentieth century, in particular, Júlia Lopes de Almeida, the oblivion and rescue of the author’s life and work. In the second chapter, I propose a study of the work from the questions of memory and the analysis of the character Ruth from the perspective of feminist criticism. As a result, it can be observed that the character underwent a considerable transformation after her father’s death, ceasing to be a fanciful and an absent-minded girl to become one of the providers of the new family structure. It is also through the character Ruth that Julia Lopes de Almeida voices her ideas on the relevance of formal education for the women of her time. As a theoretical contribution, I used the studies of Muzart (2014), Duarte (2019), Faedrich (2018), Moises (2012), Candido (2013), Zilberman (2020), Le Goff (2019), among others.ptLetras - PortuguêsCrítica feministaA falência - RomanceJúlia Lopes de Almeida - RomanceFeminist CriticismJúlia Lopes de Almeida - MemoryA emancipação feminina sob a perspectiva da personagem Ruth, no romance A falênciaTrabalho de Conclusão de CursoLINGUISTICA, LETRAS E ARTES::LETRAS
