About 5 to 12 million tons per year of bagasse are produced due to the production of sugar and ethanol. All this may become an environmental pollutant if residues are improperly disposed of. Therefore, it is valid the effort for new alternatives of use for these residues. In this context, second-generation ethanol (2G) has proved to be an attractive alternative, since it has environmental advantages, as it is produced from lignocellulosic residues. Thus, the aim of this work is to present, through a literature review, the potential of bagasse of sugarcane to obtain 2G ethanol, describing all stages of the production process. For this, a search was made on websites, scientific articles found on Google Scholar, as well as monographs, dissertations and thesesAcesso AbertoResíduoBagaçoMateriais lignocelulósicosBioetanolCana-de-açúcarAproveitamento do bagaço de cana-de-açúcar para produção de etanol de segunda geraçãoTrabalho de Conclusão de CursoENGENHARIA QUIMICATECNOLOGIA QUIMICAALCOOL
