    Ponciá Vivêncio e O papel de parede amarelo: diálogos e limites entre as protagonistas femininas

    This paper analyzes the trajectories of the main characters in Charlotte Gilman's The Yellow Wallpaper (2020) and Conceição Evaristo's Ponciá Vicêncio (2017), based on studies of female protagonism and relations of subalternity. We began by considering the themes relating to the suffering of women in the narratives. By proposing a general analysis of each story, and how the instruments used by the authors when constructing the fictional universes present convergent and divergent points linked to the processes of male chauvinist oppression, the deprivations suffered by female beings in a patriarchal society and how these issues develop in relationships with other characters, the plot, space and time. For this study, we adopted the theoretical assumptions of Antonio Candido to deal with the fictional character, literature and society; Cíntia Schwantes on the elements relating to the voices of madness present in the historical elaboration within the literature of female authorship; Conceição Evaristo on the approach to Escrevivência, as well as her own formative path; Elaine Hedges on the elements relating to the discussions that are proposed in Gilman's work. We also used other documentary sources such as magazine articles, annals, theses and book chapters to discuss the socio- historical issues surrounding female-authored narratives.
