The success of organic lettuce cultivation requires adequate planning, and the choice of cultivars adapted to this management system across different regions and cropping seasons is a fundamental aspect. Thus, selecting cultivars with good agronomic performance and adaptation to this production system has been a major demand from lettuce growers. However, studies on the adaptability and productive performance of lettuce cultivars in organic production systems are scarce for the North Coast region of Alagoas State, Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the productive performance of lettuce cultivars under organic cultivation in Maragogi, Alagoas State, Brazil. The study consisted of evaluating 10 lettuce cultivars (three loose-leaf lettuce type – Elba, Itapuã Super and Moana; three butterhead lettuce type – Babá de Verão, Fortaleza and Litorânea; two crisphead lettuce type – Delícia and Grandes Lagos; and two oakleaf lettuce type – Rubi and Brava) under organic cultivation in the Maragogi/AL. The experimental design adopted was randomized complete blocks with four replications. The experiment was conducted at the Ifal campus Maragogi from June to August 2023, on a Neossolo Quartzarênico (Quartzipsamment Entisol), sandy texture. The lettuce cultivars were grown in 1.44 m² experimental plots (1.2 m x 1.2 m) at a spacing of 0.3 m x 0.3 m. Fertilization was based on soil chemical analysis and crop recommendations, using alternative fertilizers (well-rotted cattle manure, magnesium thermophosphate and wood ash). Cultural practices included soil mulching, weekly manual weeding, micro-sprinkler irrigation and weekly spraying with biofertilizer. No pest or disease incidences were observed during the experiment. Harvesting was performed when the plants were fully developed with commercial characteristics. The following characteristics were evaluated: stem diameter, stem length, plant height, number of leaves, total production and marketable production. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, and treatment means were grouped using the Scott-Knott test (p<0.05). Significant differences (p<0.01) were observed among the lettuce cultivars for all evaluated characteristics. The crisphead cultivars (Delícia and Grandes Lagos) showed the best growth and productive performance. The cultivars Elba (loose-leaf type), Fortaleza and Babá de Verão (butterhead type) also demonstrated good adaptation and productive performance, representing viable options for organic lettuce growers in the region.
