    This article aims to highlight the importance of basic sanitation in Brazil, addressing the impact of Brazilian legislation and public policies related to water and sewage treatment. The absence of urban planning and the disorder of population growth cause an increase in demand for water resources, and as a consequence, the production of effluents and pollution of water courses.
